Book summary
Crossing the Chasm by Geoffrey A. Moore explains how high-tech products follow a predictable adoption life cycle segmented by psychographic profiles from visionary early adopters to pragmatic early majority and conservative late majority buyers. A large behavioral and expectation gap called the "chasm" separates the early market from the mainstream market making it extremely difficult for most innovations to achieve widespread acceptance. Moore's core argument is that companies must deliberately target a specific niche within the early majority develop a complete whole product solution that fully satisfies pragmatic buyers' needs and create a reference base that allows them to cross into the mainstream before competitors do.
